Welcome to Beautiful Foothills County in Southern Alberta

The Municipal District Foothills No. 31 is South of and adjacent to the City of Calgary. Located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Southern Alberta, this diverse landscape covers approximately 3,600 square kilometers or 889,579 Acres. The towns of Okotoks, High River, Turner Valley, and Black Diamond, as well as the Village of Longview, the hamlets of Aldersyde, Blackie, Cayley, De Winton, Hartell, Heritage Pointe, Millarville, Naptha, Priddis and Priddis Greens, and the Eden Valley Indian Reserve are located within the county. The 2016 Federal Census lists the population as 22,766.
There are two provincial highways that run through the MD, Highway #2 and Highway #22 both run North/South for easy access to Southern Alberta, Southern British Columbia and the US border. With the new transportation hub surrounding the City of Calgary in its final stages, access to the Rocky Mountains and #1 Highway West, #1 Highway to the East or #2 highway to the North have never been easier!
This area has deep agricultural roots that often involves stewardship of the lands and its resources. The area has diversified for today’s modern life and you will find many rural businesses interspersed throughout the county due to close proximity to the city of Calgary. The county remains one of the fastest growing districts in Canada, in part to the fabulous views of the Rocky Mountains, the long sunny days, and the low tax structure. Alberta does not have a provincial sales tax and the county does not levy a business tax.
